Director's Welcome

Dear Students and Parents,

We would like to offer a warm welcome to the entire International School of Ulm/Neu-Ulm community and a special greeting to those who are visiting our website to find out a little more about our inclusive and diverse community of learners.

I am privileged and humbled to be joining the International School of Ulm/Neu-Ulm as director. After almost 20 years in international education as a teacher and principal, what drew me to ISU is that it offers students and families not just a school, but also a community. We are a diverse and active community, a positive and supportive community, and an engaged, dynamic learning community.

From Early Years to High School, ISU provides targeted support to the development of the strengths and abilities of each child. This is possible because of small class sizes, our professional and experienced teaching staff, and because of our comprehensive curriculum and broad-ranging extra-curricular program.

ISU offers an accredited, internationally recognized, and robust academic program.  Accreditations in accordance with international standards certify quality and international recognition of the qualifications achieved. The International School of Ulm/Neu-Ulm is accredited by, or a member of, the following organizations:

  • Association of German International Schools (AGIS)
  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)
  • Council of International Schools (CIS)
  • European Council of International Schools (ECIS)
  • International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)
  • New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC)

ISU is also recognized by the Bavarian State Government, and under certain conditions, both the IB and the IGCSE gained at ISU can be transcribed in Munich by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture as equivalent to the Bavarian Abitur and Realschulabschluss (Mittlere Reife) respectively.

At ISU we also recognize that academics by themselves are not enough if children are to succeed in the future. As such, we deliver an inclusive education that seeks to meet the needs of the whole child, nurturing their well-being and fostering a strong sense of community. We offer an array of after-school activities, and we have a dynamic and welcoming Parent Teacher Group that is incredibly supportive of our students, school, and transitioning families.

As our school continues to grow and become more diversified, we continue to see the value in our differences, and in doing so, we continue to strengthen our sense of community and deepen our understanding of the ideas and values of others.

In addition to continue building our strong academic program, this year we will emphasize each student’s role as a global citizen, our need to maintain a sustainable environment, and the importance of upholding the values of respect, responsibility, and integrity. By emphasizing these core values and by providing real world learning opportunities, we promote not only academic excellence and student performance but also instill in students the value of service to others and a strong sense of global perspective and international mindedness.

Our admissions team works with prospective students and parents throughout the year and we are currently accepting applications for Early Years (Kindergarten) through High School.

I encourage you to explore our website further or Facebook page to learn more about us.

ISU is certainly a special place “ a big school community in a small school!” Welcome to our community!

Warm regards,

Liam Browne
