Director's Welcome

ISU_Staff_2021-45.jpg

Welcome to the International School of Ulm / Neu-Ulm (ISU)!

We are not just a school, but a thriving community, where each and every learner is empowered to succeed in our rapidly evolving global landscape.

We are deeply committed to nurturing a community of proactive, socially responsible learners. Our vision is straight forward: "We empower a community of socially responsible learners to succeed in an ever-changing world."

At ISU, we pride ourselves on delivering an engaging, challenging, and internationally accredited education in a nurturing, supportive, and diverse setting. We enable our students to aspire to the highest standards and foster a deep sense of belonging in an environment where the language of instruction is English. Our accreditations are recognized both globally and in Germany.

The ISU approach permeates everything we do:

  • Learning to do: Preparation for a dynamic global environment is key. We ignite the passion in our learners to hone vital skills ranging from communication and research to self-management and critical thinking. Our method is deeply rooted in inquiry-based learning.

  • Learning to live together: The beauty of diversity is in understanding and valuing the breadth of perspectives, cultures, and values that individuals bring to our school. At ISU, we are a tapestry of these enriching elements, celebrating a genuine sense of community.

  • Learning to be: Inclusive and holistic development is at the core of how we learn and teach. Beyond academic excellence, we shape our learners into balanced, ethical, and active individuals, ensuring their growth in a secure, caring environment.

The foundation of our robust academic offering lies in our globally-recognized accreditations. An International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we are also accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), Middle States Association (MSA), and authorized by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for the IGCSE. Additionally, the Bavarian State Government recognizes ISU, ensuring that our IGCSE can be transcribed as equivalent to the Realschulabschluss (Mittlere Reife). The culmination of study at ISU, the IB Diploma Programme, is also universally acknowledged, opening doors to universities globally, including in Germany.

Throughout the year, our dedicated admissions team is on call to help prospective students and parents. We are currently welcoming applications across most grade levels, including our enriching kindergarten (Early Years) programme.

Luke Osborne

Director

Luke Osborne

Luke began his teaching career at a boarding school in Scotland, where he also ran the Coastguard Service and led many expeditions throughout the Highlands. He then ran a boarding house at an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Switzerland, after which he served as the founding Head of Secondary School and then Deputy Head (Whole School) of a new bilingual IB continuum school in Dubai. Luke has been Director at ISU since August 2021.

Holistic, lifelong and personalised learning are of utmost importance to Luke, since they prepare young people for an unpredictable yet exciting future: a future in which the ability to make meaningful connections across disciplines, cultures and communities will afford ISU graduates a head start in life.

Luke is a committed volunteer for the Council of International Schools, with whom he serves as a visiting team chair to support other international schools in their accreditation processes. Luke speaks fluent French, competent German, modest Romansh and can read a little Arabic. Outside of school, Luke enjoys the great outdoors with his wife and two sons - who are also members of the ISU community.
